BLITZ - Capitol Hill Art Walk April 2013

The Molorazzi snuck in and out early tonight but caught some good work at Ghost Gallery, Blindfold, Joe Bar, and Vermillion.  Mostly captured art works tonight, very little in the way of the peps...but well...here's a few pics!  (as always, apologies to the artists for ugly snap shots and the like)

 Zoe Williams at Ghost Gallery
 more Zoe:
hey I still have a few framed prints up at Ghost Gallery!
And this very nice display table of the mini-works:

A detail of the artist statement/graphic novel the prolific and talented  Tessa Hulls created for her show at Joe Bar:

I think we all have felt this from time to time

really lousy picture of one of Tessa's lovely paintings - go check the show out in person, this image is a teaser at best.

ran into a few of my favorite peoples outside of Joe Bar

The famous comic Emmett Montgomery walked me from Joe Bar to Blindfold Gallery, and showed me this crazy Russian statue I never saw before on the way.

rough pics of Rodrigo Valenzuela's work at Blindfold Gallery

The artist himself, having just enjoyed a delicious tamale

 Vermillion

Pretty cool public street gallery - Interstitial theater was installed outside of Vermillion this evening, showing "Reel 1" featuring 7 video artists from across the country, including locals Erin Elyse Burns, Rodrigo Valenzuela, Cody Groom and Dakota Gearhard as well as Jesse Sugarmann (CA), Ellen Mueller, (WY) and Sean Deckert (AZ)   You can catch it next in Phinneywood on May 10th, for the Greenwood Art Walk and West Seattle on June 13th.  Check out Interstitialtheater.org for details yo.

Brian Cypher at LxWxH + High Fiber Diet at BAM

I finally caught the Cypher show at LxWxH and the High Fiber Diet invitational at Bellevue Arts Museum this weekend.  Today is the last day, I believe, to check out the High Fiber Diet show, however, there's also a very interesting show featuring artist whose work is about or uses currency.  I was surprised by the level of craftsmanship in many of those works.  Very lovely.  Check that out.

Brian's show can be seen by appt through March 2nd, and I believe there may be some open hours next Saturday (check with the gallery for that info).

Here's some shots from both shows:

 Brian's work is quite stunning

I had to get in one awkward molorazzi-style shot and here we have it!

Below are a selection of works from the BAM High Fiber Diet show, some artists I didn't remember the names of, apologies to those artists (it's not you, it's me, I'm bad with names!) :

 Howard and Lorraine Barlow

 Tiffany Pruitt  My Dead Pets

 Paul Komada

 Margie Livingston

Amanda Manitach (lousy shot of this video)

 Carolyn Hopkins

several of the artists work i the show reminded me of Mandy Greer's work, especially her big exhibition at BAM a few years ago.

Culture Club

This year City Arts Fest has a destination spot for visual and performance arts - a placed called Culture Club at 411 Union street.  Lots of interesting things will be happening from now thru Saturday so I would highly suggest checking out the calendar online here and going to see it all!  Tonight was the free preview day, I didn't catch any performances, but I did get a chance to check out some of the installation works that will be up throughout the coming days.

Part of 78 Carnations an installation by Ashleigh Rauen

In My Room a window installation by Linsdey Apodaca and MKNZ

The very entertaining installation of drawings based on a found year book by Jessixa and Aaron Bagley called Grizzly 1971

At the bar, you are offered a chance to take home a single blade of wheat grass, part of a work by Maggie Carson Romano
